This is one of those events where we conceptualized a little differently. Kshana team thought of challenging the kids on some aspects, physical fitness, general knowledge and ability to work in teams and show leadership qualities.
This event was done in coordination with the corporate social responsibility group of an IT company called Amdocs. One of the biggest challenges for us was to integrate the employees of Amdocs into this event and get them interact with the kids.
The event was broadly divided into three rounds. We had divided the kids into 7 groups of 8 children backed by one Kshana and one Amdocs volunteer. First came the physical grind, which included a wide variety of competitive group games. The groups of children played against each other as teams were to get the maximum possible marks which would be carried forward to the next level. This ensured that the kids would try their best to out do one another.
The second round included an general knowledge quiz across topics on basic facts which a child must know (something like Paachvi Pass ). There were cumulative marks for the team in this round.
Third, we had a strategy game. This was very interesting as it included both teamwork as well as intelligence. Here one member of each group was blindfolded and was verbally guided by the rest of his team through a complicated maze.
The employees of Amdocs also put up a folk dance number to entertain the kids. Last, we had the prize distribution and it is a very fond memory as we can still distinctly remember how the children’s faces lit up when they received their gifts. And through this small effort we tried to convey to them how important is for them to be physically active, be sharp at general knowledge and the importance of teamwork.
