Hi,

It’s the first event of the year!

2012 needs to start with a wonderful event. Kshana has been gearing up for that!

We are scheduled to have the first event of 2012 at YMCA, Andheri on January 22, 2012. The timing of the event is 2 – 6 p.m. The 72 young boys, aged between 6 – 17 years have asked us to hold a fun-filled, ‘crazy’ event— and we are ready with exactly that!

We will be playing games with them such as Paper Dance and Four Corners. Other than that there will also be a face painting competition that will put the young boys’ creativity to test!

Our mandatory dance session will wrap this event up!

After all this a snack will be served to them.

Though the event sounds small, we will be incurring some costs. The total cost of this event is Rs. 10,000. You could donate in any way you like. We accept cash or cheques in the name of Kshana Charitable Trust. You could donate in kind too; just let us know what or how you would like to donate.

The best thing you could do is just come for the event. There is no better joy than to see these children’s faces light-up with a small effort.

We need a lot of volunteers for this event. It would be great if you could reply and let us know if you are coming for this event as soon as possible.

Feel free to call Esha on 7666877077 or Roshni on 9820750480 for any more details.

Diwali event - 2011

At Kshana, we wait for Diwali event; it’s that time of the year when festivities are at its peak. This year we held the event at the Bandra East Community Centre with 45 really active boys. Our excitement coupled with their super energy — the event was a blast!

We started by dividing the boys into smaller groups, giving them one socially relevant theme and they had to enact a skit on the same. We had some hilarious acts with the little boys playing roles of old men, women and narrators. A Kshana volunteer was part of each of the groups and helped the children form a story and enact it too.

While the skits were on, some of the Kshana volunteers were decorating the place with strings of lights and diyas. A few other volunteers were preparing for the next activity. We also served a snack of patties and Frooti which were enjoyed with a lot of chatter and shayaries.

We had a series of tele-games lined up for them, from duck walks, skipping, balancing a book on their head and walking backwards — they had to do it all. A lot of confusion, laughter, a trial round and some more confusion, the teams were ready to battle it out for the final race. With the ritual of “On your marks, get set and go” the boys rushed from their starting points and rushed to the other end for their teams!

The volunteers on the sides couldn’t help but cheer along with them!

We wrapped up the evening with dinner — biryani, raita and boondi ladoos. All the energy they spent during the event was replenished and they wanted us to come back soon. As Diwali gifts we gave each child a pencil case with some stationary — each boy thanked us for them.

Another Diwali event came to an end — Kshana is already waiting for the Christmas event! J

One of our volunteers, Arti Rajesh shared her experience with us, “Getting associated with Kshana realized my dream of doing something more meaningful in life! This association has made me more complete as an individual. Kshana’s pioneer team is the most enthusiastic team I have ever worked with. The events are very well planned and organized.

“I spent a day cajoling community centre children. We laughed, giggled and played together. Each child participated well in all the activities. What surprises me is, even being a part of underprivileged section of the society; nothing has stopped these children from being well-mannered and knowledgeable. Then what stops us from loving and respecting them?

“The Kshana event made me figure out that ‘My smile broadens when I see others smile!’ What I gained was much more than the time I contributed.

I couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant day than a day in Kshana style.”

CPAA - May 29, 2011

Thirty curious pairs of eyes looked at us while we set up the hall at Shanti Avedna, Bandra for the children. Accompanied by either their parents or guardians, the children from Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) waited patiently until we began.

As our first activity, a game of ‘passing the parcel’ with a slight twist broke the ice and got everyone excited. The little ‘punishments’ were sportingly done.

After that we divided the children into five groups. In the hall on the other side of the wall, we set up a track with a number of obstacles in it which one child — nominated by the team — had to cover, blindfolded. Confusion about left and right, small steps and big steps and other teams trying to confuse the other team only made the game better.

We then let them dance to their heart’s content while the DJ belted out the latest tracks. Every single child was on the dance floor. Not to mention almost all the Kshana members were dancing like crazy too.

A delicious plateful of chole and gulab jamuns wrapped up their fun filled evening.

They thanked us for the lovely evening, waved good bye to us and their smiles just stuck on to us for the rest of the evening.

We are just waiting to meet them again, soon.
