Thirty curious pairs of eyes looked at us while we set up the hall at Shanti Avedna, Bandra for the children. Accompanied by either their parents or guardians, the children from Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) waited patiently until we began.
As our first activity, a game of ‘passing the parcel’ with a slight twist broke the ice and got everyone excited. The little ‘punishments’ were sportingly done.
After that we divided the children into five groups. In the hall on the other side of the wall, we set up a track with a number of obstacles in it which one child — nominated by the team — had to cover, blindfolded. Confusion about left and right, small steps and big steps and other teams trying to confuse the other team only made the game better.
We then let them dance to their heart’s content while the DJ belted out the latest tracks. Every single child was on the dance floor. Not to mention almost all the Kshana members were dancing like crazy too.
A delicious plateful of chole and gulab jamuns wrapped up their fun filled evening.
They thanked us for the lovely evening, waved good bye to us and their smiles just stuck on to us for the rest of the evening.
We are just waiting to meet them again, soon.
