The Kshana-ites decided to make Diwali so much more special by celebrating it with the inmates of St Catherines Home at Andheri!
We started the event by having a card making competition.
And who were the participants?? There were 4 years old kiddies as well as 68 years old grannies who were participating in the event!!
It was such a fulfilling sight… They were so happily engrossed in drawing, cutting, pasting, coloring and scribbling that no one realized how the time passed by… The Kshana-ites had such a tough time matching up to their expectations…. One aunty requested me to draw her a cat … I finally drew one after staring at the paper for 10 minutes… Now don’t ask me whether it looked any where close to a cat or not
The cards that were made by them were brilliant and so beaufitul… they made such creative cut outs and drew flowers, candles, happy faces, diyas, and even mickey mouse !!!!!!
Some children left “Thank you” messages on their cards for Kshana members… reading those messages has left a permanent smile on all our faces.
Kshana decided to spin a little magic into the children’s lives… so who better to do it than a magician !! “yeh sachi kya dus saal ki hai???” Questioned the kids as they witnesssed little Zenia, a 10 years old magician show them some tricks… and then her father took over and showed the kids some magic tricks that left the children in awe!!!
Then the kids enjoyed a lively dance performance a Kshana Voluntee and asked her to teach them a step or two… Bas…phir shuru ho gaya naach gaana
The dj was flooded by requests to play the popular chart numbers!!
The Kshana members, the children and the grannies danced like there was no tomorrow… there was Bhangra, Kathak, Garba and what not!!!
The kids just did not want to stop dancing n kept saying “yeh last song …paaaaakkkka” :D
Finally when the dancing stopped, the tired and hungry kids were served yummy khana n mithai which they had after they sang a soulful prayer..
Finally the event had come to an end …
Kshana left the children lots of indoor and outdoor games such carom boards, badminton racquets, football, tennis racquets, a mini pool table and many board games. We left napkins and shawls for the elderly.
Needless to say..the children and the elderly loved their Diwali presents, and we are glad that they did!
We parted ways with a promise to remember each other and ofcourse…a promise to be back soon.
We left St Catherines home with fond memories…it was a very special Diwali indeed
